26th February 2010 – Statement from King’s LGBT regarding the speaker appearance of Sheikh Abdullah Hakim Quick

Please find below a short summary to clarify our position:

Sheikh Quick has clearly made abhorrent homophobic remarks and we utterly condemn these.

We have not condoned Sheikh Quick’s platform on campus, but are discussing the matter with the SU.

A committee member was present at the event and we can at least confirm that no homophobia was espoused nor the subject even touched upon at the discussion itself.

We are seeking clarification of both Sheikh Quick’s previous and current stance before proceeding, as we do not want to lodge any complaint without the details confirmed.

    Happy Holidays!

    Hey everyone!

Happy Christmas and New Year from King’s LGBT, we hope you have a great holiday.

Thanks all of you for getting involved this term and helping to make King’s LGBT such a success. From the Tea Parties and Campaigns to the Kingkys and Film Nights we have a great time and hope you’ve enjoyed it just as much.

Looking forward past the noughties into the new year, we’ve got a host of things on to keep you busy, starting with drinks and ice-skating on Saturday 14th January.

Then our first Kingky of term (the ‘Anti-Resolution Kingky’) on Monday 16th, for a little resolution reprieve, where you can drink, smoke and generally live-a-little.

Plus we’ll be bringing you a new portal for information on all things LGBT, with the start of the all new King’s LGBT Wiki.

More information on all this and more in the new year.

Until then from all of us King’s LGBT,

    Ciao xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
