KCLSU LGBT Campaigns Group Election for President

————-

Hey, everyone. Apologies for the late notice *mumble exams etc.*. As many of you may have realised we have not yet had an election for President, which was the only contested position at the AGM we held back in April.

The election will be taking place TOMORROW on the kclsu website (www.kclsu.org) from 9am. King’s students simply need go to the website and vote using their King’s login details.

The two candidates standing are: ALANA JAMIL and TOMAS INCE – their manifestos can be found below:

TOMAS INCE -
‘I am vibrant and likable character who would thoroughly enjoy and look forward to becoming the LGBT president for my final year at Kings. My focus would be to bring the LBGT together on social occasions, both low key and larger events such as a freshers charity ball promoting awareness around discrimination on the grounds of sexuality. I recently attented the speed dating and throughly enjoyed myself. I can only hope to promote more events like this on a more frequent basis e.g QUIZZ NIGHT!! This will hopefully encourage more members and built rapport among existing members. So make a fabulous choice and i’ll be your voice.’

ALANA JAMIL -
‘I’m running for president of the LGBT society for the 2010/11 academic year. I have served as your events officer for the two past committees. It’s time to put the experience into practise. I helped starting up the committee again after it fell through, much has been accomplished and a lot has yet to be done. The LGBT needs more presence and promotion. It needs to be a safe space and a place where like minded can meet. I want to get as many as possible involved, regardless of their interests and age. I will work hard to tailor events according to demand, and make sure that there are more campaigns and workshops next year so that those interested can take part. A wide variety of social events are also necessary. And a bigger impact should be made at freshers fair. People should know that we exist from the moment they step foot on King’s College.’

2) Online elections on kclsu.org over Easter.

If you would like to run for the committee then just drop us an email and try to come along to the AGM.
All King’s Students are welcome at the AGM and if you can’t make it, but you would like to raise something then feel free to drop us email.

National Student Pride in association with the NUS LGBT Campaign, Brighton – Saturday 6th March 2010 – students and young people from all over the UK!

NOW CONFIRMED /// 3 CLUBNIGHT ACTS

GIRLS CAN’T CATCH, ERIK HASSLE & CHEW LIPS CONFIRMED PLUS MORE TBA
Tipped for the big time as was Frankmusik last year, this is a chance to see the 2010’s biggest rising stars close up. They’ve supported Jonas Bro’s and Girls Aloud, they’ve played stadiums and arenas so big you’d be too scared to stand on the stage of… make room for:

ERIK HASSLE
Supporting Mika on his current tour, Erik Hassle is the ultimate Swedish export (if you even say the word ‘Ultrabeat’ we may punish you), 20 years old and with an unruly mop of curls that would set any indie-kid’s heart fluttering, this talented young soul-pop’ster will get you running to the record shops to buy his new single “Hurtful” when its released this month!
Listen> www.myspace.com/erikhassle

GIRLS CAN’T CATCH
Take three feisty young girls with extraordinary voices. Add some of the freshest sounds from the cream of the UK’s pop writing and production talent. And then there’s street-savvy attitude, a touch of class and hell of a lot of fun. The frisky threesome are signed to premier British pop label Fascination – home to Girls Aloud & The Jonas Brothers who they have also supported on their arena tours. Their new single Echo is on the Radio 1 ‘A’ play list.
Listen> http://www.facebook.com/l/42ed2;www.myspace.com/girlscantcatch

CHEW LiPS
Formed in London in late winter 2008, CHEW LiPS – Tigs (vocals), James Watkins (bass, synths) and Will Sanderson (guitar, synths) – wasted no time in garnering an arsenal of electro-epics, hitting upon a rich songwriting vein – impeccably-executed future-pop that veers from grinding electro-pop grooves to fevered howls of beat-heavy R’n’B. They’ve spent the time since on the road and in the studio, supporting Howling Bells and The Virgins, they fast build a legion of fans. They’re set to release their debut album “Unicorn’, and are looking forward to stirring Student Pride into a frenzy.
Listen> http://www.facebook.com/l/42ed2;www.myspace.com/chewlips

Already universities from around the country have confirmed their attendance and speakers including gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell and Green Party leader Caroline Lucas have already signed up to take part on the Question Time Panel (part of the daytime event, taking place at Oceana on Brighton seafront). We have the Women’s Tent from Brighton Pride putting on a great line up in our Women’s room in association with DIVA!

Keep your ears open for new announcements including HUGE acts for the Opening Party at Revenge on 5th March and the SP clubnight, celebrities and politicians for our 2 talktime debates on 6th March at Oceana and Coalition.

A basement packed with girls, fairly cheap drinks that start at £1.50. Entry is free, of course. Also, may I remind you that they have a chocolate fountain. It’s worth coming simply to have free strawberries drained in chocolate. I expect to see lots of the finest Girls at King’s.

For those who have failed to come in the past or are simply not sure about where Ku Bar is, meet us by Palace Theatre (Where Pricilla is showing) at 20:45. Also, don’t forget to bring your A-game.
