Transamerica Screening – 25th November
As many of you are aware (and thanks to the kind support of the Film Department) we at King’s LGBT are starting a series of queer film screenings.

The first of these will be on Wednesday 25th when we will be screening Transamerica.

Transamerica

Bree is a perfectly adjusted conservative transsexual woman. Born Stanley, a genetic male, she’s about to take the final step to becoming the woman Stanley always wanted to be — until she finds out that she is the parent of a long-lost 17-year-old son. Afraid to tell the rebellious teenager the truth, Bree embarks on a journey with him that will challenge and change both their lives and bring them closer to the truth of their connection.

* Genre: Drama
* Director: Duncan Tucker
* Cast: Felicity Huffman, Kevin Zegers, Fionnula Flanagan, Graham Greene

The Experiences of LGBT Staff & Students in HE – 4th December

The College’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Staff Network is holding a special open meeting, to which all staff and students at the College are invited.

The experiences of LGBT staff and students in HE

Friday 4 December 2009

1.00-2.30pm (lunch available from 12.45pm)

Room 1.71, FWB, Waterloo

Speakers: Chris Hall, Senior Policy Adviser, Equality Challenge Unit (ECU)

Brent Chamberlain, Workplace Programmes, Stonewall

A recent national ECU survey of LGBT staff and students in HE shows unequivocally that while HE provides a positive space for many LGBT students, there is a still a very real need for the sector to review how it provides support for, and addresses discrimination against LGBT staff and students.

At this meeting Chris from ECU will talk through the research findings and recommended next steps and we will hear about organisational best practice in addressing these issues from Brent at Stonewall.  There will be time for questions and discussion including possible next steps at King’s.

Lunch will be provided.

If you would like to book a place please email: equality@kcl.ac.uk or call 020 7848 3398 by Tuesday 1 December letting them know if you have any special requirements.

We’re going to meet up at the Terazza Cafe in the Strand at around 3pm for some tea, cake, and a chat about how things have gone so far, upcoming events/campaigns, and things we can do to make the LGBT Society and your time at King’s as good as possible.
