New to King’s LGBT?
Welcome to King’s LGBT – probably the best LGBT Soc in London! We thought we should write a guide this year for all our new members, as most of you are probably new to London and some of you may be new to the wonderful LGBT world – so here’s a little fabulous introduction! We understand coming to university, let alone the best city in the country can be daunting and being LGBT can make it that little harder! Sooo we want to make the process of integration easy and this guide will hopefully allow you to do that. King’s LGBT exists to firstly promote and protect the rights and interests of students who identify or are perceived to be LGBT or other sexual and gender minorities at the college BUT we also provide the most amazing events ever! Anyone can come along and we don’t have an official membership so just show your face!
Here are a few dates that you need to know…
26/09/2011 LGBT Freshers’ Kingky, The Edge, Soho. Meet outside the Strand Campus entrance at 19.30 hours to walk down for 20.00 hours.
28/09/2011 LGBTea Party, Terazza Cafe, Strand Campus at 15.00 hours.
04/10/2011 Girls’-Only Night with St Georges’ University LGBT. Location and time TBC.
05/10/2011 LGBT Film Screening. Film TBC. Strand Campus. Location TBC.
Not out? Don’t worry, there are a few members who attend our events regularly who aren’t out except for those who attend. Everyone understands what it is like to be in the closet and we all respect confidentiality of those who attend any of our outings. If you want more support please look on the How we can help you tab above. If you’re a bit worried about turning up to one of our events it would be a good idea to let one of the officers or president know and we can meet you beforehand or meet for a coffee and chat!
Bat for the otherside? Why not come along to our first tennis club on the 28th September, it is King’s first genderless, LGBT-only tennis club led by our Sports Development Officer Mike Forsyth.
King’s LGBT has been known to do campaigning in the past with attending all the Pride London events, Protest the Pope, etc. However, throughout next year we plan to do more. Normally if you want to get involved it is best you speak to our Campaigns Officer Peter Shields or come along to one of the LGBTea Parties when you don’t have to shout over the noise at the Kingkys. We will be holding discussion/debate events throughout the year too!
We look forward to seeing you all very soon LGBTers and keep checking on the website and Facebook group for more information and updates!
In pride,
Michael Fanner, x
